Netgear Orbi / Orbi Pro seems much more appealing from the privacy point of view, as well as UniFi. That's why you use money to fund and properly run an R&D department, pay QA testers, have test setups, etc. If they want analytics they can do their own fucking testing. Sure they're not looking at PACKETS or sniffing traffic, but what the fuck do they need ANY insight in to my network for lol? It's a router and should function 100% independent of Eero. Eero, for example, will collect data for analytics. Similar to Google WiFi, I have privacy concerns. Can't get that with the Airports ¯_(ツ)_/¯. via the UniFi Security Gateway), multiple SSID's, WiFi surveys, VLANs. hopping between access points? Not so great. And especially all hardwired, speeds are insane. they have been fucking perfect really, in terms of realiability.
To be fair, NOTHING wrong with the Airports. I do want to try the Orbi Pro though before I do that. I'll just get another UniFi Security Gateway, maybe run the controller on a Pi 4, and get a couple of access points. The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to just keep going with UniFi controller and access points. I don't think AmpliFi HD does (even if you connect two "full" AmpliFi HD routers, and don't use any repeaters). I'm moving out (keeping the existing UniFi setup for renters), and considering an Orbi Pro for the new place since it has dedicated WiFi backhaul. But I'm going to have other people relying on me for connectivity (and paying), so I decided to buy the Cloud Key. It worked fine on the Pi 3, in fact perfectly.

Personally, I think using what you have until AX becomes common and prices drop is the best move if your WiFi is adequate. Mesh seems to be a patchwork to get around interference and neighbor conflict by bringing a stronger signal close to where users need it. Home is nearly 4000 SqFt on 2 levels, the router is in the basement office near the center of the house. AX should solve any remaining problems, though my WiFi is working pretty well with just the Synology router. It promises faster, more range, less prone to interference and congestion from neighbors, and better security. WRT Mesh, which many here seem to be fans of, I myself am holding out for 802.11ax which is now coming to market. Switched to Synology RT2600AC, still use Time Capsule AC (WiFi disabled) for backups.
